Watery Wednesday / Canals around Bend

Click on the side bar and join others around the world with more Watery Wednesday Photos
Empty Now but will start flowing again soon.
Established in 1918, the Central Oregon Irrigation District ("COID") is a quasi Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon.

The system consists of two main canals: the Pilot Butte Canal, which runs north, through Bend, Redmond and Terrebonne; and the Central Oregon Canal, which runs east, through Bend, Alfalfa and Powell Butte. Both canals divert water from the Deschutes River.

The District provides water for about 45,000 acres within an 180,000 acre area in Central Oregon. More than 700 miles of canals provide agricultural and industrial water to the Terrebonne, Redmond, Bend, Alfalfa and Powell Butte areas. In addition, COID provides water to the City of Redmond and numerous subdivisions; in Bend, many parks and schools receive water through the COID system.

In 1989, COID commissioned and completed the Siphon Power Project. Profits from the power plant will be returned to the District to be used for capital improvements to make our distribution system more efficient.

In addition, the COID is the managing partner in the operation of the 55,000 acre foot Crane Prairie Reservoir, located on the east side of the Central Cascades.

Camera Critters/ New Babies

Click on the side bar and join others for there cute critters from around the world
Todays Flower is posted below this

As i posted last week i said i was going to add photos of the new babies that were brought to me last week, so here are the 4 cuties that i have.
As some of you may have read, we lost our 23 yr old TC on Friday, I want to thank all that left there condolences. After i got back home from the vets with having to deal with her, i came home to one of the black babies laying totally still, she was not doing well at all. It scared the heck out of me as she was fine when i left. To make a long story short, when CRAFT was contacted about these kitties they had no idea how long the babies had been without food and there momma as she was run over. The people didn't know how to raise baby kittens..... so they gave them cold milk, also they didn't know that you have to wipe there little bottoms to make them potty. Well we weren't sure what the problem was, but she also ended up having a convulsion, so i gave her Karo syrup to get some sugar in her system. All i kept thinking is i can't loose two cats in one day. Anyway baby kittens can dehydrate very quickly, so i gave her sugar water every 30 minutes just to keep the fluids in her. Laurel came by and brought me different milk as we also thought maybe the can dry food may be tainted as it was a milk product, and the gal that had brought it to feed Sammy's babies had it for a while. Anyway we both didn't think she would make it thru the night. But as i continued to feed every 30 minutes i went back out to feed at 2 am and by golly that little girl was sitting up and giving me the water for and wanting food.I could not believe that she made it, what a little fighter she was. She also is the smallest of them all, which is why she was effected first, as now the others have taken there turn in being sick although now we sort of know what to treat, so they are on antibiotics hopefully will get better. Boy they sure have gone through a rough time. And i was in real need of some sleep last night. This little orange cat was the second to come down with it. But last night she finally came around and wanted to eat.

In Loving Memory of our Beloved TC

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Camera Critters/Update on fostering

Please click on side bar and join others for some great animals from around the world

I want to thank everyone for there kind words and prayers for our 23 yr old TC, remarkably she is still eating, walking and drinking, although i do feed her out of a syringe in between what she eats and drinks. She is holding her own. For awhile she wouldn't eat on her own,but she tries when she smells the food, always was big on people food and i guess she says she isn't ready to give that up yet. What a fighter she is.
Also i don't know if you have heard on the news about a blind Cat Named Cougar who took in babies that she is helping to raise. Anyway Lisa is a RV Friend of mine who has the babies go check out her blog and see this beautiful cat and kittens and keep track or there growth. Cougar's Blog

Well I thought I would update you all from my kitty family.
Here is a recent photo of Avery the baby that Momma Cat had this winter who brought them to me from below zero temps this Dec. Yes i have not been able to find her a home, she will now live with us. Isn't she a beautiful?

And here is Boo Boo, she is the one i had decided to keep from the beginning she is still very very small, she loves to sit here on my lap and watch me type to ya all, she loves to put her paws on the screen. Boy does she mess my puter up at times.
Now for my Volunteering for CRAFT the no kill shelter. Here is a update on Shelby if you were here last week for CC you can check out her story, a quick recape on her, she was not eating had these two beautiful babies actually 3 but the owner of the cat had taken it to the Humane Society but it died,Anyway Shelby just had these babies a few days before she was captured and brought to me, she would not eat or drink. I force fed her and force water to her, Pediolyte mostley and she did get a the IV fluids for a couple of days. Well i am happy to say that Shelby finally this Wednesday started eating and drinking on her own, I am so happy with her progress. And even tho she doesn't have much milk babies are doing just great along with my bottle feeding them. And also yesterday they started to open there eyes. Babies are going to be adorable. Now if i can get her to be not so skittish when i try to get her to move....

So in the meantime one of the other foster homes had what they believe to be either Shelby's sister or could be her mother, anyway she gave birth to 3 babies while in there care. But again she too would not eat, she was failing and also same thing not much milk, so they were bottle feeding the babies as well. But the lady works all day and with these babies they need to be fed more on a regular basis, and with momma cat not in good health and not eating she needed to be force fed. So i volunteered to take her and the babies in till they all get on there feet. So please meet
Sammie and her 3 babies.
She is not eating and is much more difficult to force feed then Shelby was. But we are making progress, i just got her on Thurs. And feeding her about every 2 to 3 hours, mostly concentrating on the fluids and then food. They brought me a big cage and so i can keep the babies separated a bit easier so momma can get a bigger break in between the feedings. They are taking the bottle pretty good now, so that will help momma a lot.

Camera Critters/Sick/dying/& newborns

As some of you might remember i have posted about my 23 yr old Cat Named TC, She is our oldest cat and now has been in kidney failure now for awhile, we are into the IV's and now the doggie pampers, I am feeding her with a syringe as she doesn't really want to eat.
How do you convince someone to let them go? Hubby is not ready to do it yet. But it is time, she is down to 3 lbs. If you wouldn't mind say a little prayer for her and for hubby.
And here is the other problem that i have,as you know i am also a volunteer now for CRAFT and this is the momma and babies they brought me the other night. Things are not well with her either, she has not ate or drank since she has come here. I am also force feeding her, and she is also on a IV now. Yesterday as i was cleaning her pen, i noticed this reddish yuck, turns out to be some of the after birth. I took her to the vet and that is what they said it was, the other problem with her is i noticed that she really had no milk in her titties, at least not much. So luckily i had started to bottle feed the babies the day after she got here. Well anyway the vet gave her a shot to hopefully produce some milk, well so far not good, Still can't see much of a milk titty.
She is such a sweety but still very leary of anyone. She loves for me to rub her tummy. One of the girls from Craft came over last night and set her up with the IV and came again today to do more plus add some vitamin K to hopefully help out more. Poor thing just lays there letting babies try to nurse, she loves to have the blanket on top her, i forgot to add the photo of that, it is so cute. If she doesn't perk up soon she will have to go to the vet again and run some more tests, as she may have an infection from the birth. So for now i have been busy taking care of sick/dying/new born cats
So here is Princess having to check out the baby kitty, i know she would be real happy to lick this little one and do all that needs to be done to make babies go potty but not to upset momma cat we don't let her do that. Momma cat is in a quiete place in the laundry room so that she doesn't have to contend with all the other nosy cats.

My first Foster Momma

So this is Shelby, which we have named, as she didn't seem to come with a name.
Last night i got a call from Laurel from CRAFT Asking me if i would take this momma cat and 2 babies. This woman who had her didn't inner act with the cats,so she acts a bit like a feral cat
, I understand that there was 3 kittens and one of the kittens went to the Humane Society that they are trying to get back, so momma can take care of it as well.

The woman is moving out of state and she was just going to leave the cats there and let them fend for themselves. I guess the place reeked of cat odor. Even when they brought her here you could smell the urine , very disgusting.

I don't do cat urine smell very well. People that come to my home have no clue just how many cats i do have, and when i tell them they are so surprised that they smell no cat odor. Am i bragging about this? Yes, I pride myself in having a urine free smell in my home. The key is the right cat litter, along with daily cleaning.

So i will be updated you here about this beautiful little Siamese cat, I don't think she is full blooded but does have beautiful blue eyes.
