Trees

I thought I would share some photos of the area that we camped at last week
Click on photos for better viewingA burl (British bur) is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds. Burls are the product of a cambium. A burl results from a tree undergoing some form of stress. It may be environmental or introduced by humans. Most burls grow beneath the ground, attached to the roots as a type of malignancy that is generally not discovered until the tree dies or falls over. Such burls sometimes appear as groups of bulbous protrusions connected by a system of rope-like roots. Almost all burl wood is covered by bark, even if it is underground. Insect infestation and certain types of mold infestation are the most common causes of this condition.
I thought this was interesting, i think maybe some hunters had this for cover and just left it
This also was an area that had fire
A nice stream flowing
Piles of trees that they will use for slash burning. Sort of sad because lot of that could be used for fire wood.

Hey Lilli! Thanks for the lesson on burls. If I learned about them in middle school science, I've long forgotten.

I would call that a deformed tree too but interesting.

Looks like a frame for someones tent. Wonder what the had covering it? Maybe just a tarp.

Love the water flowing through the green grass.

I agree about the pile of trees. It is aweful how people wastes stuff.

What a dream to camp out in an Oregon forest! Interesting scenes you share.
I seem to remember seeing artwork made from burls or even slices of a burl being sold in a shop somewhere. Big bucks from burls.

the way you describe burls is like it is tree cancer! How cool. Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing.

This looks to be such a wonderful adventure. I love the idea of traveling in a motorhome and just going where you please. Your "Tree" post is lovely, and I agree with you about the slash burning. Have a good day.

I have been floating on the lake so have not been over for awhile. I do really enjoy all the sunsets you post and the photos of different areas but the Critters are the best. Princess was so sweet to guard Tittertat while prowling in the grass. Peace

"Louis" thanks you for stopping by San Francisco Bay Daily Photo!

This is an interesting series of photos you've posted.

Someone has parked an RV very similar to the one in the photo in the headline to your blog up the street from Chez la Vache - and it has Oregon plates on it! "Louis" wondered if you were in the neighborhood when he first spotted it - then compared the colors on yours with the colors on the one he saw - not quite the same....

That looks like a beautiful place. We've come across such lean-tos around here in the woods. Some are very, very sturdy!

That's so interesting to learn about burl. What a nice area you have to go there, are those other trees eucaliptus?

Loved very much that one of the stream.

Great set of pictures..
These Burls are much sought after by wood workers... bowls and such like are made from them.. the grain as stange patterns which help to make a good profit for the worker.

Lilli: What a woderful place to camp. That burl on the left has some interesting features. The wood grain in a burl is fantastic and makes beautiful bowls.

is it me or are there faces in those burls?

love the stream, too :)

Maybe someone already mentioned this, Lilli, but those burls sure end up making gorgeous bowls on the lathe!
