Sky Watch Friday

Just realized that this is my 300th post since I started blogging

If you would like to join in the fun go to Tom's site
This is a photo of the sunset at the Columbia Gorge last yr. One of our free camping spots at Rufus
For over 31,000 years, the Columbia River Gorge has supported flourishing civilizations. Evidence of the Folsom and Marmes people, who crossed the Great Continental Divide from Asia, were found in archaeological digs. Excavations at Five Mile Rapids, a few miles east of The Dalles, show humans have occupied this ideal salmon fishing site for more than 10,000 years.

The Columbia River Plateau was created by a series of basalt flows. The flows covered 164,000 square kilometers -- portions of northeast Oregon, southwest Washington and western Idaho.

These are so beautiful and the history of the place is truely awesome to... I had visions of the salmon jumping and being trapped. The importance of the salmon run back then would be live and death for some.
Thank you also for Sharing your 300th post with Sky Watch... I'm so pleased for you. I wish you many many more posts..

Yesterday I went to the USA map in order to see where Oregon is. Uau...so far from away from where I live.

Very nice to learn about your State, with your nice pics.

Rufus OR is a name that brings back memories. A flat tire in the middle of the night on a college Christmas vacation trip home to Southern California. Rufus OR and Weed CA, the next spot that was significant in the trip, where I called home to say I would miss my flight from San Francisco to LA and found out my Dad had already left for the airport early-an hour and a half drive. It was 1964 and ice storms and flooding had cut off a lot of travel up and down the coast, so we were lucky to get through at all. A pair of burly construction workers took us 35 miles back to Rufus, the only place we could get another tire--as this was the second flat on that ill fated trip. BTW, we lost the heat somewhere near Bend and for the return trip my friend I was riding with borrowed a paper clip from my mother to repair it. Inspired confidence in the parents, that did.

Love Cannon Beach! Your photos are delightful. I love the Columbia River Gorge also. I went to the Skamania Fair last summer and saw parts of it again . Between the brilliance of the sun and the blue of the sky, those photos are a real treasure!

These are all gorgeous, but I'm going to have to say I like that last one best. I'm just a sucker for the beach. Also, I love the way the sun is just out of the frame on this one, but the rays are there so you know it's there. I'd love to be there, too.
