Photo Disappointment

What a disappointment last night,I had the most beautiful sun i have seen in a long time, the sun was on fire, but do these photos show this? NO!!!!!, I don't know what or how i should of had the camera set to get the hot glow of the sun. But i tried every setting there was and none came up with the red hot glow. I guess that is were a good spendy camera comes in at. I was so disappointed.
Any help if i should see that hot glow again?

How could the sun turn out white, yuck!!!!!

No clue as to why! But I still like the picture.

The other day I had a sun very similar to yours, I imagine, and even with my big spendy camera i could not capture it! I was very disappointed also. I suppose it's one of those times where you're suppose to enjoy the moment rather than trying to capture it for eternity. The sunsets are so amazing b/c of the smokey skies, at least one benefit.

But it's really interesting to compare these three views. At least you try different settings. I hardly ever leave the Automatic button. LOL Someday I'll have to read the instruction book...
Whether red or white, it's still a dramatic sun you caught.
Shalom to you, Lilli & Nevada.

I have had pictures turn out like this as well..maybe Abe or Jim who's blogs I link to could help you to find the answer.

Maybe you should have tried with tripod and a lower velocity on the camera, but I'm not sure.
Evem so, the third photo is quite good.

Still gorgeous shots. Maybe it wss like the red rocks of Sedona. I have never seen a photo to show that brillant red color. I had to scroll down and get my kitty cat fix. I just love how Casey sucks the thumb. Peace

These pictures are great anyway, in my opinion. What kind of camera do you have--can you set aperture and shutter speed?

I can only suggest a tripod and slower shutter speed. The photos are very good anyway.

I also love them! When you take a direct photo of the sun glowing, it never turns out how you visualize. Somewhere I read that the "white" glow is because the sun is so hot. I love them!

My direct sun photos are white inside with orange glow -- yours are gorgeous.

No one is grading you! Interesting shots, no matter how critical you may be of them! "Louis" enjoyed them!

"Louis" is up deeper than his cowbell in a work project for the next several weeks, so most likely he won't pause to sign the 'guest registry' when he stops by...

It's very hard to capture accurate colours when you have such contrast in the subject - the dark of the trees plus the brilliance of the sun equals 'difficult subject'!

I'm not an expert, but .. Try exposure compensation, even the little compact digitals have it these days. You need to go down a stop or two (towards the 'minus' end of the scale). This will make the landscape almost black, but that actually makes a better picture. If you have Photoshop, you could try reducing the light levels in that and see if you like it.

Good luck!

I know this is a bit late but try using your flash when you take the picture it will usually slow the shutter speed to sinc. with the flash and give you a longer exposure. The other option is the night time portrait mode usually looks like a person against a black background and a star above. What this mode does is slows the shutter down and then fires the flash. If you are just shooting the sky then the flash should not affect it much. hope this helps. If you need any more help let me know.
