Deer in Yard

Every year we seem to be blessed with some deer in the yard, altho i love to see them here, it makes me sad that they come across the busy road and then i wake up to find them hit on the road. Last yr we woke up and found 4 deer hit across the street, not sure what happened if it was a truck, but to have 4 of them killed at the same time seemed strange. Can you see how close the road is to our front yard?

At the end of the motel there is a empty small piece of land that doesn't belong to us, and i noticed that the grass there was all matted down, and I told hubby i thought there were deer bedding down there at night.

Well tonight the doe was there, my son said he saw a buck laying there yesterday morning. It was funny cause he called me when he went to the trailer and said mom that doe is just standing there staring at me, i had to take the garden hose to try to chase her off, of course i got a bit upset about that, and said why did you do that, she would not hurt you, he laughed and said have you seen those shows that the deer attacks the person? I said well i really don't think she would do that. So i went marching down there with some bread and camera. Didn't get a good shot of the deer in the dark, If you click on the picture it will get bigger and hopefully you can see her better.
A few yrs ago we had a momma and her baby that would come up to our big living room window and look in, waiting for me to come out and feed her bread. I never knew that they liked bread, till we went to the bread store and this guy was picking up all this old bread, i said what are you going to do with all that bread? And he said feed it to the deer. I said i didn't know they liked bread and he said they love it.

Quadribent

Ok so i had to find something that has to do with the letter Q I guess i could of went with something obvious. So i went for a search of the Q's and to my surprise i found the Quadribent. Didn't know anything like it was out there. Amazing the things you find when your having to look.

What is a Quadribent?
The Quadribent is a recumbent vehicle consisting of parallel paired recumbent bicycles that are joined together side-by-side to form a recumbent quad bicycle that two people can ride together.

The Quadribent attaches two EZ-1 recumbent bikes to make a four wheel, side-by-side "Sociable Tandem" with independent gearing and pedaling. The recumbents can be detached for solo use.

It can accommodate additional riders in an optional rumble seat.

And another holiday recipe, since fruitcake is a tradition that starts after the Thanksgiving holidays.

Kentucky Bourbon Fruitcake
8 ounces red candied cherries, halved 8 ounces green candied cherries, halved 8 ounces seedless raisins or chopped dates 2 cups bourbon 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) butter, room temperature 2 cups granulated sugar 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 6 large eggs, separated 5 cups all-purpose flour 2 cups chopped pecans 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon baking powder
PREPARATION:
In a medium bowl, combine the cherries, raisins, and bourbon; cover and let soak overnight.
Preheat the oven to 275°F.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugars with an electric mixer until light and fluffy; add the egg yolks and beat well.
Stir in the soaked fruit with bourbon. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of the flour with the pecans; set aside. Add the remaining flour, nutmeg, and baking powder to the creamed mixture and blend well. In a bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form; gently fold into the cake batter. Sprinkle the floured pecans over batter and fold in gently.
Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan and line the bottom with greased waxed paper. Pour the batter into the pan; bake at 275° for 3 to 3 1/2 hours, or until a wooden pick or cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool the cake. Turn cake out of the pan, peel off waxed paper, and store in a tightly covered container for several days.
White Fruitcake
1 cup chopped candied pineapple
1/2 cup chopped citron
3/4 cup finely chopped or shredded almonds
1 1/2 cups coconut
2 1/4 cups cake flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
6 egg whites
PREPARATION:
Prepare fruits and almonds. Measure the sifted flour and reserve a few tablespoons to dredge fruit. Sift remaining flour into a bowl with baking powder and salt. In mixing bowl cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy.
Stir in sifted dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Beat well and add the dredged candied fruit, shredded or chopped almonds, and the coconut.
Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold into batter.
Line a greased loaf pan with waxed paper or parchment paper and grease the paper. Spoon batter into the prepared pan. Bake at 300° for about 90 minutes, or until a wooden pick or cake tester inserted around center of cake comes out clean.

Monster Trucks

Ok, so yesterday we went to the Monster Truck show with Hudson our grandson, It was quiet interesting as i have never been to one.

I think they should hand out ear plugs, not so much for the noise of the trucks engines, but all the screaming all these little people do. I don't know when i have seen so many young kids at a even like this, But boy there was a bunch of them.

And there was one little girl sitting right behind me who must of woke up this morning with no voice, as she screamed the loudest of them all, right in my ear.

So, they were interesting, can't say i would ever go again, but at least now i can say i have been to one.I took a ton of photos, but i guess i need to learn to set the camera were it takes fast shots or something, cause all the good shots of the rigs going in the air was all fuzzy.

But what i think i would really like to see more of is the 4wheelers that was running around there. Now i found that a lot of fun to watch. Might have to see if there is any of those kind of races around.

Remembering our Veterans

Thanksgiving recipe to share

Well its almost that time of yr again, so i was thinking about what we are going to do for the holidays. It has been so long that i have made a dinner. Now that my son is living here and he will have the kids, so i need to be thinking about what to fix for dinner.
So what do you all have for dinner ? Do you have turkey , ham, or?

I got this recipe the other day that i thought i would try:

native american cranberry cornbread

Ingredients 1 cup unbleached white flour,
1-1/3 cups yellow cornmeal,
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt,
1/2 cup dried cranberries,
2 large eggs, or egg replacer
1/4 cup honey
1 cup plain soy or nonfat milk
2 tablespoons sunflower oil
Cooking spray
Instructions Preheat oven to 400 degrees and lightly spray an 8-inch square baking pan. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Stir in cranberries and set aside.

In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, honey, and oil. Add to dry ingredients and mix just until blended.
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake until top is lightly browned and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 30 minutes.

A Dark & Stormy night

They were together in the House.

Just the two of them.


It was a cold, dark, stormy night. The storm had come quickly;

each time the thunder boomed, he watched her jump.


She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance...and

wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her

from the storm.
Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out... She screamed...

He raced to the sofa where she was cowering.

He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms.

He knew this was a forbidden union and

expected her to pull back.


He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead clung to him.
The storm raged on....

They knew it was wrong...

Their families would never understand... So consumed were


they in their FEAR that they heard no opening


of doors...just the faint click of a camera......

Tearing down of the restaurant

Well today the time has come that they tore down the Restaurant next door, and i have to say i watched all but the beginning of it, took 118 photos, it has been a long time that we have waited for this day to come.


So now they will start the new Sonics restaurant, I have heard good things about them, have never seen one or ate at one, but the commercial shows great milk shakes, HMMMM maybe not such a good thing to have something that good go in next door.
Has anyone ever been to a Sonics?

Well if nothing else it will make the place look much better than the old restaurant and the garbage around it. Never good to have a old building sitting empty, makes your place not look good.
My son talked to the guy that was tearing it down and he said they will be picking up the mess tomorrow and then they will start taking tearing up the parking lot. So i guess its going to be a mess around here for awhile.

Sick

Well i have managed to get myself sick, have not been sick in a long time, went to bed Sat night and woke up freezing, not me, as i am always hot, turned the heater up, which is usually off at night.My head was killing me, my body ached all over, i wanted to throw up but couldn't , glad i didn't tho as i don't do throw up well.Stayed in bed all day Sunday, and of course we very seldom get people early on a Sunday but of course as i was sick i had 3 check ins before 3 pm. Nope Nevada does not do check ins. I finally told him that he better put a sign on the door saying we were closed. I wanted peace and quiet.Funny how men seem to get that peace and quiet when there sick, but heaven forbid if we females get sick all things should continue on.

Anyway i guess i am back to almost normal tonight, have a hacking cough deep in my chest, so i guess that will go away soon. I am not a very good when it comes to being sick.

More remodeling

I would of never thought that we would be remodeling the office again almost the way it was in the beginning, but here, 5 yrs later we are putting it back almost the way it was before. .They took the wall out so this is were it is now.Now that is a mess, the box on the floor is the phone system. he had to go back under the building to reroute the wires, he marked all the wires, then when it came back to hooking them up, the phone in the house wouldn't work, they messed with those wires for a couple of hours, when finally he decided to go back to make sure he had pulled all the wires back thru, sure enough he forgot one. So now all the phones lines are back and running for the rooms.
So here is where the desk ended up, surprising the desk fit just perfect in there,he was afraid that he would have to cut some of it off.After all the stuff, was moved over we relized that we had a problem,and that was the cords that i needed to connect to the internet and wifi was not long enough, NOT good, can't be without wifi,and we had to have the wifi box outside so people can connect from the rooms, so to fix the problem son went and got longer chords.. So all is up and running again.

Thunder On The Mountain Virginia City NV

In Sept 2004 we went to Virginia City NV. Have you ever been there? Have you ever wondered what a town looks like with hundreds of motorcycles?

As we got closer to Nevada we kept seeing all these motorcycles, not knowing why accept the fact the weather was nice. We had just left home with our last people that rented the entire motel was a group of bikers, for the weekend. Nice bunch of folks that twice a yr come to Bend and rent all the rooms for one of there events.
Anyway as we came into town many of the streets were blocked off, and many motorcycles, so we figured that it was not a place we wanted to stay at, so decided that we would go to Virginia City. As we arrived in town we were surprised that all those bikers coming into Nevada also were going to be spending there time in VC. Being that it was late we decided to look for a place to park, now that was funny as the Rv parks were all filled, should of guessed that, well anyway someone mentioned that they were allowing people to park in the parking lot. So being we were self contained in our motor home we thought we would try it.Well we ended up staying 3 days so i guess it wasn't all that bad, the bikers were nice and friendly, no fights that we heard during the night, even sat down and had a few drinks with a few of them.
Anyway here are a few photos,
Virginia City, Nevada is one of America's largest Historic Landmarks. Located just south east of Reno, Nevada, this historic mining town is easily accessible by car from Lake Tahoe, Reno, or Carson City. Some say Virginia City's rich gold and silver mines financed the Civil War. Now rich in history, Virginia City and the Comstock Lode still maintain the flavor of the hifalutin mining days, when Mark Twain roamed the streets and everybody wanted a piece of the "Richest Place on Earth."
So parking in a motor home or car was not allowed that weekend altho i don't think you could of found a place even if you had too.
Here is one of the saloons, being it has been so long ago i don't remember the name of it.
Now this lady 's dress is made of nothing but silver dollars, isn't it pretty? Yup! Nevada taking a real good look at it, And speaking of , In case you have always wandered, no he was not named after the state.
And here is the bar, i just love these old time bars, they have so much character.Be sure to click on the photos to get a larger look.

Benefits of Struggling

BENEFITS OF STRUGGLING

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared, he sat
and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body
through that little hole.

Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as
far as it could and it could go no farther. Then the man decided to help the
butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of
the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily.

But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to
watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would
enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.

Neither happened!

In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a
swollen body and shriveled wings.

It never was able to fly.

What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the
restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through
the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the
butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved
its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us
to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would
not be as strong as what we could have been.

And we could never fly.

Hoover Dam

Jan of 06 we went across Hoover Dam in our motor home, at the time and i assume to this day all large rigs must be inspected before being allowed across. It was funny because we had our 23 ft motor home at the time. and the inspector said they will have to search it. So i said ok just let me make sure that the cats are not in the door way before you open the door, i said we have 10 cats in here, he came to the door and came in, and seen some of the cats and he said "How many cats did you say you had?" I said 10, he never looked at nothing else accept the cats petting them and telling us about his cats. I guess he figured anyone traveling with 10 cats was not likely to be hiding anything, Like explosives. Anyway here are a few photos of the dam. Maryhill Museum the inside & white Peacock

Its amazing what you find on old disks, i knew i had at one time had some photos of the inside of the Museum, and as i was going thru my disks i found these. I thought i would try my hand at doing a collage and seeing how it would turn out so here it is.

This is some of the inside of the museum.You can go back to my other post of Maryhill Museum for some other inside information.I had never seen a white Peacock before so this was a real treat, i waited for him to open up but he never did.
The White Peacock is frequently mistaken for an albino, but it is a colour variety of Indian Blue Peacock. Its white colour makes it looks really magnificent and elegant.

Ione Ghost Town In Nevada

Since I don't have anything to add for today i thought i would go back on some of my floppy disks of photos that i have never taken off . So thought i would post some of them here.Jan of 2006 on our trip back from Quartzite AZ We saw the sign to Berlin and Ichthyosaur Which turned out to be closed, Just one of those side trips we do once in awhile. But after driving for sometime we came across this sign. And decided to take the road , being that it had snowed and didn't look like it had been cleared, decided to go for it anyways. In the spring of 1863 Silver was discovered and the camp of Ione was founded in the upper part of the Shamrock canyon. It had roughly forty to fifty buildings and because it was too far off the beaten path and distant from the mines in 1864 the present town site of Ione was plotted in the lower part of the canyon. Also in 1864 the State legislature designated Ione the County Seat for Nye County. After still another rush Ione grew to around 500 population.


Milling began around 1865, first at the Pioneer Mill, but the miners were unable to supply enough ore to keep it running, so it was soon to shut down . The same year easterners erected the $130,000 twenty-stamp Knickerbocker Mill just south of town which run for ten years milling ore from nearby districts. In 1866 mining was getting poor and the ore was running out so the county seat got moved to Belmont. Ione hasn't had a rush since 1880 and the Quicksilver operations in 1920 and 1930 help some, but the town never has been deserted.

If you are ever in that area in the summer time i think it would be a great place to visit, another time for us if we get that way. Not in the winter time however, i really don't recommend doing it in a motor home in the winter
